Attacks hit hols hotspots

-

ED GLEAVE BRITISH tourists are turning their backs on terror-hit countries including Turkey, France and Belgium amid fears for their safety.

Interest has also plummeted for previously popular hotspots in Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.

The stats show that searches for Tunisia are down 88% compared to last year, while Egypt is down by 76% and Turkey has seen a drop of 50%. After attacks in Paris and Nice, France has seen interest drop by 16%. Belgium is down 34% in the wake of the Brussels horror earlier this year.

Bob Atkinson at TravelSupermarket said: “Many British holidaymakers are choosing to take their summer getaways in what they perceive to be ‘safer’ destinations.”

Spain has also had a surge in interest, meaning it now accounts for a massive 39% of all searches on the website. Locations that have seen a boost include South Africa which has seen interest double while Thailand is up 86% and The Netherlands 43%.

The change in demand for certain locations is likely to see price rises in those that are now popular.

But travel expert Bob said there are plenty of good deals on offer. His top tips include Italy, Bulgaria, Corfu and Thailand.
