TOM’S VERDICT
IF the thought of a “pie up” – a fry-up in a pie, doesn’t tickle your fancy then I’d urge you to give it a try.
I was sceptical at first. It didn’t look too appetising, probably due to the layers of beans beneath the crust. However, the taste was a pleasant surprise.
For black pudding fans it was a triumph. The overwhelming taste of the British delicacy shone through.
This was a lesson in not judging a book by its cover, or rather a pie by its crust.
The pie was delicious but its seriously meaty nature might put some consumers off. Where was the egg or hash brown? The pie’s role as a morning dish is somewhat limited given that only 13% of Englishmen consider pie a breakfast food, according to the Prepared Meals Report.
Overall, I’d recommend the fry-up pie for those after a quick hangover cure. For the connoisseurs out there, it might not cut the mustard.
