To Hill & back

-

DRUM and bass act Rudimental are desperate to relaunch Lauryn Hill’s car crash career.

The former Fugees singer released critically acclaimed The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill back in 1998 which earned her five Grammy Awards and sold nearly 20million copies.

But since then the US singer’s biggest achievement is managing to stay out of jail.

Now Rudimental star DJ Locksmith wants to change all that.

He told me: “We’ve started our third album which will be out early next summer and I’m desperate to get Lauryn Hill on it. She’s one of our favourite artists and her Miseducation album is easily one of the best albums ever produced. “She’s so talented it’s criminal she hasn’t really done anything since. Put it this way, I’ll be really upset if we can’t pull this off.” Locksmith, real name Leon Rolle, revealed the group have already recorded a new track with another blast from the past adding: “We’ve done something with someone who was well known but isn’t big any more but that’s top secret. You’ll have to wait and see.” Rudimental headline London’s SW4 on August 27 alongside Chemical Brothers, Dizzee Rascal, Andy C, Carl Cox, and more. See southwestfour.com for tickets. RUDIMENTAL’S DJ Locksmith has been getting in shape for the summer festivals by taking part in MaxiNutrition’s 30 Day Ibiza Challenge. The drum and bass star swapped desserts for dumbbells to shed fat for the leading sport supplement brand’s programme. He told me: “We’ve been touring a lot in America which was hard as I couldn’t find a gym some times. I was having to do squats and jumping jacks on the road in random places like Arizona.” I went head to head with Locksmith with a lot of help from my brilliant personal trainer Neville Kenwright at London’s Duo Chelsea gym. I even became a MaxiNutrition poster boy in the process, which is one for the bucket list! See maxinutrition.com/ ibizachallenge for details.
