PUB landlord Chris Parkes can call “rhyme gentlemen, please” after appointing his own poet in residence.

Chris has installed regular customer Ron Graves as the saloon bar bard at The Draper’s Arms in Peterborou­gh, Cambs.

Ron puts on monthly poetry readings and sends out a regular newsletter.

A poetry noticeboar­d has also been installed in the pub to get others interested.

Ron came up with the idea after a few drinks in the bar one evening.

“And it was seized on by Chris, 39, who has been running the Wetherspoo­ns’ boozer for 11 years. Chris said: “Ron was one of our first customers through the doors when we opened. The idea of PATRICK WILLIAMS THIS cute pup looks dog tired as he reclines in a hammock.

He’s just one of a number of canines to become internet sensations.

Cats have always been on top when it comes to racking up hits on YouTube.

But hounds are fighting back with some wacky antics including chilling on a doggy deckchair and wearing shades and a tie.

Scores of pooches have now pulled in more than a appointing a poet was discussed while he was slightly inebriated one evening.

“He suggested he should be poet in residence for The Draper’s Arms.

“I took him at his word, appointed him on the spot and immediatel­y announced it on social media.

“Regulars are taking it well. It’s become a point of interest and we are a new venue for poetry in the city.”

The first poetry night attracted an audience of about 30 new punters on top of the pub’s usual customers, he added.

The next event is planned for next Sunday and there is also a Facebook page called The Draper’s Poetry set up by Ron. ED GLEAVE million views online. Tonight, Puppies Make You Laugh Out Loud 2 celebrates their capers.

The show, narrated by Iain Lee, includes hilarious footage of dogs from around the world. Comics Dave Spikey and Matt Richardson also give us their views.
