BREN SPOT OF BOTHER Rodgers’ Hoops out-Foxed

-

The majestic Riyad Mahrez gave the Foxes an early second-half lead with a sublime, curling finish but that was cancelled out by Eoghan O’Connell’s first goal for the Hoops.

With neither side able to come up with a decisive strike, the tie was decided on penalties.

And after the opening 10 had been successfully converted, it went to sudden death. James Forrest was Celtic’s fall-guy as his attempt was saved by Kasper Schmeichel and Daniel Amartey stepped up to place his kick beyond Leo Fasan.

Mahrez created the first chance after 11 minutes with a clever reverse pass to Danny Drinkwater. The England midfielder then put in a low cross that Leonardo Ulloa fired wide.

Mahrez then instantly controlled a high ball before curling a shot wide.

A minute into the scond half Leicester took the lead, as Celtic were undone by a wonderful piece of skill.

Mahrez took possession on the right and after a couple of step-overs in the area created a yard of space to curl home a glorious left-foot shot.

Celtic levelled after 59 minutes as the ball came to O’Connell 25 yards out and he curled a side-footed effort through a crowded area and in off the post.
