CONVEY’S A CRACKER Moore makes Ponty raid

-

JASON HEAVEY He will grace Pontefract for just one ride on Convey in the Listed Sky Bet Pomfret Stakes (4.00). He is the highest rated horse in the field although has been unlucky this season.

But conditions look ideal and he should take all the beating in the £45,000 contest.

Moore told his Betfair blog: “If he gets his favoured fast ground and doesn’t win, I’d be disappointed. “He couldn’t handle the soft ground in the Hunt Cup and again didn’t run up to his best in the Summer Mile at Ascot last time.

“But if he returns to the level of his unlucky second in the Hambleton Stakes at York or his neck second to Home Of The Brave in the John Of Gaunt at Haydock then he must have an excellent chance.

“He wears the cheekpieces again after they were left off at Ascot, which could explain that run, I suppose, and this is a step down in class, too.”

Mark Johnston looks set to be the leading trainer at the Go Racing Festival and can strike with Street Duel (3.25). The three-year-old has fallen 4lb in the weights and if he gets his own way in front he will be difficult to pass.

Course form can count for a lot at Pontefract and GRAN CANARIA QUEEN (4.35) has won twice at the M62 track. She ran better than her position suggests last time at Newmarket and, if she can trap quickly, she will take some pegging back. Rachel Richardson gets a lovely tune out of her.

SEE VERMONT (5.40) has slipped down the weights but is a tricky ride and has to get cover and be delivered late. Danny Tudhope might just be be the jockey to work the oracle.

LOVE MARMALADE (2.50) has his first run for David O’Meara and arrives on the back of a solid second last time out. O’Meara’s ability to revive the careers of waifs and strays could be seen to good effect here.
