Carl’s so happy as underdog

-

NICK PARKINSON CARL FRAMPTON hopes that rival Leo Santa Cruz is underestimating him ahead of Saturday’s fight.

The Belfast boxer (below) reckons the WBA world featherweight champion is judging him on his US debut a year ago – when he got dropped by Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in the first round.

Frampton, 29, recovered to win on points and has now returned to the States to step up a division and challenge Santa Cruz in New York. He said: “I think he’s overlooking me. “The only time he’s seen me in the flesh was when I had my worst night and now he thinks I’m chinny. “I got put down twice but I came back to win and he’s judging me by that. That was me at 70 per cent.

“He’s going to come forward and that will suit me.

“He has never fought defensively and it will be interesting what he does when I start catching him.

“I really need to be at my best because he’s the best fighter I’ve come up against.”

Frampton has promised this fight will be better than his snoozer against Scott Quigg.

He said: “Scott Quigg didn’t want to engage and it was a very boring fight but this one will be different.:
