Carter: Don’t Wake me up from fairytale yet

- By JULIE STOTT

WAKEFIELD chairman Michael Carter has urged his men to turn the club’s fairytale into the stuff of legend. Wildcats only saved their Super League lives last year thanks to a late win in the Million-Pound game against Bradford. This season, they have already secured their spot in the top eight AND have a Wembley dream in their sights. It is a phenomenal turnaround but Carter does not want the success story to peter out now. He said: “It has been a fantastic year for us but now the boys have got a real opportunity to get themselves into Wakefield legend.

“No one would have predicted us for the Cup semi-final and very few would have predicted us for the top eight so it is a real opportunity.”

Sixth-placed Wakefield play Castleford in seventh at home today knowing a win will give them a three-point lead over their rivals.

Captain Danny Kirmond (left) said: “Cas have had a bit of a stranglehold over us in the last couple of years so it would be nice to get a bit of revenge on them.”

Wakefield face Warrington in the semi-final on Saturday but coach Chris Chester says he will not be resting any of his players.
