Cry-kwondo for unlucky Lutalo

TEARFUL Lutalo Muhammad broke down after missing out on taekwondo gold in the last second of his final bout.

He looked set to win but had to settle for silver after taking a kick to the head from Cheick Sallah Cisse of the Ivory Coast.

Distraught Lutalo, 25, branded it “one of the low points of my life”.

He said: “I was so close to becoming Olympic champion.

“I don’t want to cry but I am so sorry to the people that stayed up to watch.

“I let them down at the last second.”

Lutalo won bronze in the -80kg category at London 2012. He said he was “gutted” he would have to wait for Tokyo in four years to go for gold again.

The athlete added: “It’s hard to say how disappointed I am, it should have been gold.”
