BOXING golden girl Nicola Adams made history as she defended her Olympic crown.

The 33-year-old became the first British fighter to retain a title at the Games for 92 years after winning gold in the flyweight final.

She defeated French fighter Sarah Ourahmoune, 34, in a thrilling bout.

Both women celebrated at the final bell but the three judges unanimousl­y named Adams the winner.

The delighted Brit raised her fist and danced on the canvas before getting a hug from fellow London 2012 hero Anthony Joshua, 26, who was commentati­ng for the BBC.

She said: “I can’t believe it, I am now officially our most accomplish­ed amateur boxer ever and it is such an amazing feeling.

“It takes a lot to win an Olympic medal and I would just like to thank everybody.” Adams was a star of DEVASTATED Tom Daley crashed out of the diving after finishing last in the semi-finals.

He missed out on a second Rio medal after having a shocker in the men’s 10m platform competitio­n.

Daley, 22, came top in Friday’s preliminar­ies but finished 18th. ROBIN COTTLE the 2012 Games, where she became the first female to win an Olympic boxing title after women’s bouts were introduced.

The same year she was the first woman fighter to be given an award from the Boxing Writers’ Club of Great Britain.

She was also awarded an MBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours.

Adams is the first British boxer to retain a title since Harry Malin, who won middleweig­ht gold in Antwerp in 1920 and Paris in 1924.

The Leeds-based fighter says she is unsure whether she will compete in Tokyo in 2020, when she will be 37.

She added: “I’m going to go on a nice holiday, take some time out and think about what comes next.” The Team GB star, who was watched by fiancé Dustin Lance Black, said he was “truly heartbroke­n”.

He said: “I felt in peak condition and thought I could have won. It’s really hard to accept.”

Daley won bronze in the synchronis­ed event with 19-year-old Dan Goodfellow.
