HITS ARE DEAD CERTS Raves from the graves

-

PEOPLE are dying to make mourners laugh at their funerals by picking funny songs for the service.

Hymns are falling out of favour at modern send-offs – with people opting for rock and TV theme tunes instead.

More and more of us are trying to put the fun into funerals by choosing songs such as Highway to Hell by AC/DC to give mourners a giggle.

Celebration by Kool and the Gang is the most popular choice, followed by The Prodigy’s Firestarter.

Other stand-out tracks included Another One Bites The Dust by Queen, Burn Baby Burn by The Trammps, the Benny Hill theme tune and even the song from Channel 4 show Deal or No Deal.

The study was conducted by Wilcox Limousines who quizzed 198 funeral directors about unusual trends they had seen during the course of their 3 4 8 9 10 ISOBEL DICKINSON work. Boss Paul Wilcox said: “There’s a great deal of humour attached to the songs on the list.

“There is a wicked irony at play with some of these choices.

“The music selected for a funeral is often sombre, but some people choose a song that they think captures the personality of the deceased and their sense of humour.

“That’s how they want family and loved ones to remember them.”

Other requests that didn’t make the top ten included Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire, Way Down by Elvis Presley and Ding, Dong The Witch is Dead from The Wizard of Oz.

Funeral directors have also seen family members opting to sing, rather than deliver a traditional eulogy.

Other quirky requests include people asking for funerals to be livestreamed, and eco-friendly coffins.
