The Zenga boys are making a real noise

-

WOLVES had to come from behind to earn victory over 10-man Birmingham in a feisty local derby.

Walter Zenga’s side stormed back after falling behind to a 24th-minute goal from debutant Che Adams.

But second-half strikes from Joe Mason, skipper Danny Batth and Jon Bodvarsson condemned Gary Rowett’s side to their first league defeat of the season.

They also ended the game a man short after Jack Storer was sent off six minutes after coming on as a substitute.

A delighted Zenga praised his players after the win.

He said: “They played with heart and passion and had the confidence to stay in the game.

“The second half was amazing and I am very happy for them as they are working very hard.”

Conor Coady had given an early indication of Wolves’ intentions with a powerful long-range drive which Tomasz Kuszczak kept out.

Only a timely interception by Kortney Hause prevented new boy Adams from opening his account early in the game but he did not have to wait long for a goal.

In the 24th minute the former Sheffield United man showed great composure at the far post to coolly slot a low shot home.

Zenga’s visitors took just two minutes of the second half to level.

Mason collected a pass from Bodvarsson and lashed home the equaliser with a 20-yard drive on the run past a helpless Kuszczak.

With Birmingham on the ropes, Wolves tightened their grip on the game and sailed into a 61st-minute lead.

Matt Doherty headed a Wallace corner goalwards but saw Kuszczak make a good save – however he could only parry the ball into the path of the unmarked Batth, who stroked the ball in.

In a frantic finish, Storer was sent off before Bodvarsson smashed home another cross from 12 yards.

Rowett said: “We have to be better at home and how we manage games. To lose our shape was not good enough.”
