JACOBS’ Crackers

-

Paul picked out some nice-priced winners last week including Another Lincolnday (9-2), Hilldale (6-1) and No Ceiling (6-1).

SUNDAY SERVICE CRICKLEWOOD GREEN (nap) is described by his trainer as, “A cracking good horse that is well handicapped,” and he can prove the point when he lines up for the 5.00 at Brighton.

Winner of the Brighton Mile Challenge three weeks ago, the five-yearold only has a 3lbs penalty to carry here and being versatile as far as ground conditions are concerned he looks set to land the nap.

Earlier on, WASEEM FARIS has finally been shown some mercy by the handicapper and should go close to defying top weight in the opening sprint at 2.00.

Just 1lb higher than his last winning mark, the Mick Channon trained charge has Extrasolar to worry about most of all.

There are some cracking bets at Chelmsford with NEWPORT PLACE an intriguing wager in the opening nursery at 2.10.

Jamie Osborne looks to have handicapped him on a pretty decent mark of 50 based on an eye-catching third run when staying on for fourth spot at Wolverhampton last time.

Getting weight all-round, the youngster can open his account at the fourth time of asking with Bruny Island the biggest danger. Later on, have a second look at MEZZOTINT in the mile handicap at 3.10.

This evergreen sevenyear-old is only 4lbs higher than for his last success over course and distance.

ANTE-POST Idaho set a pretty good high mark for the St Leger with a fluent win in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, but for a horse not guaranteed to relish the extra yardage he is way too short in the betting and both MUTAHAAR (ran yesterday at Chester) and 66-1 shot TO BE WILD offer better value.

The former showed that staying was his game in the King Edward VII Stakes, while Hugo Palmer’s charge is a huge left of centre bet.

However, the son of Big Bad Bob has always been held in high regard and travelled like a classy horse when losing his maiden tag at Ffos Las.

And there is plenty more to come from him as there needs to be if he is to be considered a classic contender.

THE WEEK AHEAD I will be at Newbury on Tuesday night and will be hoping for a massive run from the progressive three-year-old ALIZOOM in the six furlong handicap at 6.50.

He was beaten by a fair sprinter in Gold Hunter last time out and can return to winning ways here off a mark of 84 under Harry Bentley.
