KUMAR: TIME TO CALL ON ROY

-

JASON ROY will aim to use the ODI clashes against Pakistan to smash his way to a Test debut on the sub-continent. And former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara says his big-hitting Surrey team-mate should definitely be in Alastair Cook’s side in Bangladesh and India. With Alex Hales and James Vince both flopping GARY FITZGERALD badly in the drawn series with Pakistan, the door is open for Roy, 26 (left) to finally get his chance this winter.

Sangakarra said: “Jason could easily play Test cricket. He’s the kind of player that can play any form of the game.

“He has more ability than I have and a much greater repertoire of shots. I just hope he gets his opportunity and maximises it.”

Roy can increase his chances of a call-up with a few more spectacular knocks in the five-match ODI series, starting on Wednesday.

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to put on that England shirt again,” he said.

“If I score a lot of runs maybe it will come but I am not pushing anything.”
