May: No election till 2020

-

PRIME Minister Theresa May has ruled out calling a snap General Election.

In her first big interview since taking office, she ruled out going to the country before 2020.

Mrs May told The Andrew Marr Show the country needed stability after the Brexit vote and confirmed: “I’m not going to be calling a snap election.”

The PM also warned that the UK should be prepared for “difficult times” ahead despite better than expected economic indicators.

And she insisted controls on EU migration should be part of an exit deal, adding that the British people “don’t want free movement to continue in the way that it has done in the past”.

Brexit Secretary David Davis will make a statement to the Commons this week outlining the Government’s position on the terms of withdrawal, Mrs May said.

But she will not formally trigger negotiations by invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty before the end of this year.

Mrs May also told the BBC it was clear the Scottish people did not want another independence vote.

And she said a decision would be made this month on the stalled Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant deal with China. A TEACHER has been found dead in Snowdonia.

Carl Newbold-Comyns went missing on Thursday. His body was found at 9am yesterday.

The 48-year-old taught at Plantsbrook School in Sutton Coldfield, West Mids, and was also a Scout leader.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
