RESULT! Vokes: It’s time for Roo to forget about Dragons’ celebration

-

SAM VOKES has told Wayne Rooney and England to “move on and forget” about Wales mocking their Euro exit.

Moaning Three Lions skipper Roo (below) admitted last week that he and his team-mates are still fuming over footage of Welsh stars celebrating England’s downfall in France.

Gareth Bale and his fellow Red Dragons were filmed on a mobile jumping around and cheering wildly after minnows Iceland dumped England out at the last-16 stage.

When asked about Roo’s latest swipe at Chris Coleman’s men, Vokes refused to be drawn into a public slanging match with the Man United star.

But the Wales and Burnley striker made it clear everyone in the Welsh camp has drawn a line under the matter.

Vokes, 26, said: “I suppose we should all forget about it now. We’ve moved on here, like we have with the Euros. “The summer’s gone and now we can crack on with the World Cup qualifiers.” Rooney also suggested the fallout over the humiliating video, which ended up on social media, could cause problems between rival England and Wales stars who play together at club level. But Vokes rubbished that idea and stated there is no issue at Turf Moor with himself and Clarets’ Three Lions keeper Tom Heaton. Indeed, he denied there has even been a chat about the controversy – let alone a full-blown bust-up. Vokes said: “No, not at all. There’s Tom and myself at our place – but nothing has been mentioned about it.”

Vokes became a Red Dragons hero over the summer when his bullet header against Belgium helped fire Chris Coleman’s men into the last four at France 2016.

And that unforgettable moment in a magnificent 3-1 triumph more than compensated for the fact he and his partner Maddie had been forced to postpone their wedding for 12 months thanks to Wales’ heroics.

Ahead of the Dragons’ opening World Cup 2018 qualifier at home to Moldova tomorrow, Burnley ace Vokes, 26, said: “We’re leaving the wedding until next summer. I’ve managed to get another year out of it!

“We made the decision when it started looking as if the Euros qualifying campaign was going the right way.

“We had never planned it like Joe Ledley and book it for the day of the final.

“My fiancee Maddie was fine. In fact, it was better that way than stressing out about whether I was going to get home on time.

“Instead, we’re going to do it next year. We play Serbia away on the Sunday before the date we’ve set.”

Wedding bells are ringing throughout the buoyant Welsh squad just now.

As well as Ledley and Vokes, Real Madrid star Gareth Bale announced his engagement to long-time partner Emma Rhys-Jones while holidaying in Ibiza after the Euros.

Vokes added: “We’re very happy for Gareth. He kept it quiet all over the summer. We only knew about it when he went away.”

In a Wales squad renowned for its unique spirit and togetherness, everybody is welcomed into the fold with open arms, even Vokes’ father, who was a diehard England ‘home and away’ supporter until his lad made his full Red Dragons debut in May 2008.

“Dad had a Welsh top on this summer. He was probably the happiest Englishman in France,” said the ex-Wolves and Bournemouth forward, who qualified to play for Wales through his grandmother. “When I scored against Belgium it was a great moment for the family as they were all there. Some were in the posh end but my old man was in with the fans. “I saw my dad
