Coyle: Point was least we deserved

-

BLACKBURN remain at the foot of the Championship table despite Sam Gallagher earning them a draw at Loftus Road.

Gallagher headed home Corry Evans’ cross eight minutes after Tjaronn Chery had found the top corner with a free-kick from 30 yards after 65 minutes.

And Blackburn might have even come away empty-handed had QPR’s new signing Idrissa Sylla not missed a golden chance late on.

Chery’s goal came after a spell of Blackburn pressure where keeper Alex Smithies kept out Evans’ volley and Gordon Greer missed a great chance for Rovers when he blasted over the bar.

The visitors managed to cause Rangers problems during the first half, with an unmarked Tommie Hoban heading wide from close range before Hope Akpan and Craig Conway both sent shots wide of the target. In the final seconds of the half, they went close again when Gallagher’s goal-bound header from Conway’s corner was blocked by Jake Bidwell.

Jason Steele was unable to rescue Rovers when Chery opened the scoring, but they battled on and got their reward when Gallagher netted his second goal of the season.

Although the Rovers fans were unhappy with the final result, boss Owen Coyle could take heart from a display which saw them take a well-earned point – and he is convinced they are improving.

“There’s no doubt about that,” he said. “Our first two games of the season were very poor but from there we have progressively got better with each game.

“QPR are a good side but we’re disappointed to be leaving with a point because I felt we deserved to win.”

Rangers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “I thought the performance was really good. We deserved more – but you have got to put the ball in the net.”
