Clare: Job claims are half-baked

-

CLARE Balding has poured cold water on claims she will be the new Great British Bake Off host.

The TV sports presenter is the bookies’ favourite to succeed Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins in hosting the show when it switches to Channel 4.

But Clare, 45, who has already presented horse racing and the Paralympics on C4, dismissed the idea.

She said: “It’s absolutely hysterical and of course I’m flattered, but it’s funny.

“I wouldn’t be remotely interested in presenting it. I like watching it – why would I want to be presenting it? I can’t cook.

“I want Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley to do it, that would be brilliant.

“Or someone like Julie Walters and Judi Dench,” she said at a promotion event for her new children’s book, The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop.

Mel and Sue have decided not to host the show after it moves from the BBC to C4. Star judge Mary Berry has given in her notice too.

William Hill have Clare as 7/1 favourite to replace Mel and Sue. Next are Jamie Oliver and Jo Brand at 8/1.

The Chuckle Brothers are 150/1 outsiders. WITH Channel 4 now left to pick through the crumbs of the Great British Bake Off, your Daily Star Sunday wonders if it’s time for our Pie Off to make a screen debut.

A TV expert said: “The Great British Pie Off could easily transfer to the small screen. It would make classic culinary telly.”
