Boy from Benfica’s got goals in locker

-

WOLVES winger Joao Teixeira struck twice to help earn victory over Brentford at Molineux.

Teixeira, who is on a season-long loan from Benfica, opened the scoring in the 47th minute.

He then doubled Wolves’ advantage 10 minutes later as Walter Zenga’s side earned back-to-back league wins following last weekend’s success at Newcastle.

Brentford had given themselves hope of salvaging something from the match when on-loan Crystal Palace winger Sullay Kaikai scored his first goal for the club in the 67th minute.

But a stoppage-time strike from substitute Ivan Cavaleiro – his first since arriving from Monaco in a club-record £7million move – ended their comeback hopes as their four-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Wolves boss Zenga told his side not to let their standards slip following the victory.

The Italian plans to be in the promotion race and he said: “I enjoyed it because we approached the game very well and the attitude of the team was fantastic.

“We have to continue in this way and don’t forget where we have come from and where we want to arrive.

“It is a long season and we don’t want to forget that if everyone pulls together we can arrive where we want to be.

“The fans love when the team plays football and the fans love when the team runs and puts the attitude in on the pitch and works hard. We have to be 100 per cent.

“I don’t know where we can arrive. But I want to fight for something. That is very important.”

But Bees boss Dean Smith was unhappy that some key decisions went against his side.

He said: “We gave them two cheap goals. Well, the first one was cheap. Josh McEachran should probably have played it wide, ran into trouble and then we didn’t have the balance right behind and they broke and scored.

“We’ve got to be better to prevent that but the second goal should have been our free-kick anyway.”
