Cut-throat Jake’s so ruthless for leaders

-

A LATE Jake Jervis penalty earned League Two leaders Plymouth a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Hartlepool.

The visitors took the lead when a Nathan Thomas cross-shot looped in but Argyle levelled in the 84th minute through Jervis (below) spot-kick, given against Toto Nsiala for a high boot on Jimmy Spencer.

Pools boss Craig Hignett was sent to the stands for his protests and defender Scott Harrison was dismissed for a second booking in time added on.

Doncaster had started the day in second but were beaten 3-1 at Luton.

In-form Rovers midfielder James Coppinger opened the scoring but Cameron McGeehan finished a superb team move then Jack Marriott and a McGeehan penalty secured the points.

Portsmouth moved behind Plymouth with a crushing 5-1 win against Barnet.

The Bees took the lead from John Akinde’s penalty but Pompey hit back through Conor Chaplin and a stunning Gary Roberts strike.

Carl Baker’s curling effort made it 3-1 but when Barnet defender Bira Dembele was sent off for bringing down Chaplin, Roberts missed the chance to add a fourth from the penalty spot.

Milan Lalkovic and Danny Rose added further goals.

Crewe were held 1-1 by Blackpool, with the visitors taking the lead through Jon Guthrie’s headed own goal only for Ryan Lowe to glance in an equaliser. Cambridge secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Newport as Luke Berry’s scrambled effort proved the difference, but Mansfield’s goal drought extended to 451 minutes as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Grimsby thanks to Omar Bogle’s penalty against the run of play.

There were four goals in the last seven minutes at Morecambe but Jim Bentley’s men were beaten 3-2 by Crawley.

Striker Billy Kee grabbed the winner for Accrington in a 2-1 success at Colchester, while two quickfire goals from Lee Holmes and Ollie Watkins snatched 10-men Exeter a 2-0 win at Stevenage.
