Tom can’t flog old

-

GHOSTS are making it Mission Impossible for Tom Cruise to sell his mountain estate.

The star put the £48million, 298acre property in Colorado on the market two years ago but wouldbe buyers have stayed away.

Locals claim the site is possessed by a “malevolent spirit”.

Several prospective purchasers have seen the shadowy figure of a woman prowling the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom main house, which Cruise helped to design in the early 90s.

Others have been scared off by “creepy vibes” during tours, according to one estate agent.

A couple recently walked away from their viewing after complaining that the house, in Telluride, “felt like death”.

Top Gun actor Cruise, 54, bought the estate and built a helipad there so he and second wife Nicole Kidman could use it as a winter escape with adopted children Connor and Isabella.

Tom later spent skiing holidays there with third wife Katie Holmes and their daughter Suri.

But even though it is maintained by a full-time staff, his visits in recent years have been rare.

Now friends say he is “increasingly frustrated” at being unable to sell MIKE PARKER U.S. Editor because of the ghost stories which are attached to it. One said: “Tom thinks it’s all just silly superstition, but the fact is people think it’s haunted and as a result no one is making an offer.” Local historians have speculated that the shadowy female figure could be the angry and restless spirit of a prostitute named May “Trixie” Green. She deliberately took an overdose of morphine in the late 1880s. May was one of more than 200 young women who sold their bodies to the prospectors searching for gold beneath the 12,000ft Telluride peaks. According to newspaper reports at the time, Trixie took her own life after falling in love with an English miner named William Hosking. He abandoned her after striking gold and, at the age of 29, she was buried in a pauper’s grave at Lone Tree Cemetery after no one came forward to claim her body. Over the decades, there have been numerous sightings of her “ghost”. But Cruise’s friend told us: “Whatever the truth is, enough people seem to believe that there’s a bad vibe on Tom’s land and he’s nowhere close to selling it.”
