The French star got the better of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Found in the highlight of the richest raceday of the season.
Christophe Soumillon was trapped in a pocket turning into the Ascot straight but eased out to challenge and was soon joined by Ryan Moore on the eventual runner-up.
The pair locked horns before Almanzor, who will stay in training next season, showed his rival a clean pair of hooves with a blistering display of acceleration. Jack Hobbs ran a tremendous race on his comeback by staying on for third.
Soumillon said: “He is an amazing horse. I never thought at the beginning of the season he would be that strong the whole year. He is getting smarter and smarter.
“We have never tried a mile and a half but I am sure he will stay.”
Earlier Minding won her fifth Group JASON HEAVEY One of the season with a brilliant display in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. She repelled the challenge of Ribchester to crown a marvellous season, which has seen her win over 1m, 1m 2f and 1m 4f.
Winning jockey Ryan Moore said: “It’s really some achievement to see off the colts and she has done it the hard way. She was just too good.
“I was taking her back for the first half of the race. She has lots of pace and has masses of talent.”
Journey was the most impressive winner of Champions Day in the Fillies & Mares Stakes.
As hot favourite Seventh Heaven found trouble in running, Frankie Dettori always had the winner in a prime position ready to pounce and she quickened clear to win easily.
