Famous 5 for Shane

BAC to the future

-

I KNOW, from reliable sources, that Prince William is pretty handy on a motorbike.

His brother Harry is even handier, apparently.

So, seeing as it’s pretty much a motorbike with two extra wheels, I’m assuming the second-in-line is probably itching to get his mitts on one of these, a BAC Mono.

The BAC team were at Manchester University recently when HRH tried one of their cars for size.

Liverpool-based BAC – who produce around 50 cars a year – work closely with the uni, using its pioneering new supermaterial graphene. The £75,000 single-seater tops 170mph and rattles off the 0-62 dash in under three seconds.

One would like one, surely? MASSIVE congratulations to Shane “Shakey” Byrne who wrapped up his fifth British Superbike title last weekend at a very wet and potentially lethal Brands Hatch.

At 39, he might be approaching the age where vegetable gardening and history documentaries are more appealing. But the way he has ridden this season has been impressive, to say the least. At Brands he rode like a true champion – using his head, staying upright, resisting the pressure and taking the points. Byrne is the only rider in the series’ history to clock up five titles.

Rumours are he will stay put at Penrith-based Paul Bird Motorsport for 2017 and therefore remain Ducati-mounted.

You’d be mad to bet against him. the Renault design team for this stunning concept car, dubbed the Trezor. It may sound a bit like a male fragrance (just in time for Christmas) but this fully electric supercar is a design study to showcase technology possibilities for future models. I reckon, Renault people, you’re more likely to sway consumers away from fossil fuels if the electric option is this drop-dead gorgeous. Forget the future, get on with it. Make it happen, toute suite. Merci.
