RESULT! Iron get a high five from magic Morris

-

JOSH MORRIS’ 14th goal of the season gave Scunthorpe a 1-0 win at Coventry to extend their lead at the top.

The Iron are now five points clear of Bradford who moved into second place after a 4-0 home win over Rochdale.

Billy Clarke, Thimotee Dieng, James Hanson and Mark Marshall all notched.

Bristol Rovers had Daniel Leadbitter sent off in the 14th minute and lost 4-0 at Millwall with Aiden O’Brien, Shaun Williams, Lee Gregory and Harry Smith all on the scoresheet.

An added time goal from Jay EmmanuelThomas’ gave Gillingham their first league win since September 24 as they defeated Northampton 2-1.

The visitors had taken the lead through John-Joe O’Toole’s 36th-minute header but Max Ehmer equalised just after the interval.

Scott Laird put Walsall ahead just before the half-hour mark but Dean Bowditch’s 90th-minute reply ensured a 1-1 draw for MK Dons.

Port Vale’s late comeback saw them move into sixth after a 2-1 win over Fleetwood which saw both sides reduced to 10 men. Chris Long gave the visitors a 52nd-minute lead but Rigino Cicilia levelled with 15 minutes to go and Alex Jones struck four minutes from the end before Anthony Grant and Long both saw red.

Tim Sherwood (below) began his reign as Swindon’s director of football with a 3-0 home victory over Charlton.

Morgan Fox netted an own-goal just before half-time and soon after the break Lloyd Jones doubled the lead before John Goddard added a late third. Southend beat Bury 4-1 helped by a goal in either half from striker Nile Ranger. Simon Cox made it 2-0 and, after James Vaughan pulled one back from the penalty spot, Ranger and Stephen McLaughlin ensured there were no slip-ups from the visitors.

Shrewsbury’s first league win in over two months lifted them off the bottom as they beat Oxford 2-0.

AJ Leitch-Smith put them ahead after 19 minutes and Shaun Whalley scored deep into stoppage time.

AFC Wimbledon were held 0-0 by Oldham.

The Portugual ace, who is leading a race with rival Lionel Messi to become the first player to reach a century of Champions League goals, is now closing in on Germany legend Gerd Muller and Ireland hero Robbie Keane’s international goals tally.

That duo sit fourth on Europe’s list of all-time leading international goalscorers with 68 goals apiece.

But both have now hung up their shooting boots.

Ronaldo, 31, is still going strong and two goals against Latvia in tonight’s World Cup qualifier in the Estadio do Algarve will see him draw level.

After signing a bumper new five-year deal with Real Madrid last week, Ro n a l d o s a i d : “What I most want is to go on enjoying t he years I have left to play. I still have 10 years.”

The former Manchester United star could even challenge the trio at the top of the all-time scoring list.

Legendary Hungarian duo Ferenc Puskas, who netted 84 goals in 89 appearances, and Sandor Kocsis – 75 in 68 – lead the way, while German Miroslav Klose is third with 71 in 137.

Keane (right) sits alongside Muller (above) in fourth and a haul of four goals against tiny Andorra in October saw striker Ronaldo leapfrog Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic into fifth spot. The Portugal captain added one more against the Faroe Islands days later. He now boasts 66 goals from 135 international matches – and will fancy his chances of adding to that tally against a Latvian side who only have whipping boys Andorra below them in Group B. That’s because European champions Portugal are ranked eighth in the FIFA rankings, with Latvia 116th. But they desperately need a win tonight, lying three points behind leaders Switzerland – despite having hammered 12 goals in their three matches to so far. Only one team qualifies outright for Russia 2018 and since kicking off their campaign with a 2-0 defeat away to the Swiss, Por t u g a l bounced back with successive 6- 0 wins against Andorra and the Faroes. To n i g h t ’ s match is Portugal’s final f ixture until March when they will host Hungary.
