LEW’S JUST BRAZILIANT Pole keeps Brit in title hunt

-

TED MACAULEY 19 points, will have to beat Hammy by seven points to clinch his first world championship.

But after Hamilton’s humdinger of a performance yesterday, ahead of their 71-lap clash, it looks as if the championship will go to a last-race thriller in the desert as the three-time champion is now a hot favourite to triumph in South America.

Rosberg needs to beat Hammy to the chequered flag to secure the title.

But if Hamilton wins and Rosberg fails to finish, the reigning crown holder will take a six-point lead to Abu Dhabi.

The pair face a gruelling race in front of a noisy sell-out crowd and Rosberg has vowed to throw caution to the wind.

He said: “I am not going to change my approach, I am going to go all-out for a win here. There are two races to go and anything can happen so I will be totally focused on being first under the chequered flag.”

Hamilton, 31, with his first pole placing in Brazil since 2012, was full of fighting talk.

He said: “I have shown great pace in the last couple of races and now by qualifying on pole I have shown I have still got it – and there is, I promise, more to come. Much, much more.

“The car has been faultless. And I am going to keep pushing as hard as I know how.

“I promise I shall fight to the bitter end. That’s just the way I am, it is in my character to be a winner.

“And I am intent on winning around here for the first time and making sure the fight goes all the way to Abu Dhabi.

“It is going to be tough but that’s the way I like it. I think the fans are going to be in for a real action-packed treat.”
