Wenger chants ruled out of order

-

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are being urged to shop any fellow Reds who abuse Arsene Wenger on Saturday. Arsenal head to United for a Premier League showdown. While all eyes are sure to be on Gunners boss Wenger (below) and United counterpart Jose Mourinho – who have been at loggerheads for 12 years – the home fans will also be under the spotlight. The Old Trafford faithful have long targeted Wenger with vile sex chants, which are simply too offensive to be reprinted in this newspaper. Last season during Arsenal’s league defeat at United, the sickening abuse coming from the stands was clearly audible to the live TV audience. Last week the Daily Star Sunday approached both the club and the Greater Manchester Police to discover what plans, if any, are in place to curb the Wenger abuse this weekend. A United spokesman said: “All supporters are reminded of their behaviour – as stated in ticketing terms and conditions.” The police, meanwhile, have told fans they can police themselves – by notifying authorities of any troublemakers during matches. A GMP statement read: “Ejecting fans from the stadium for behaviour and efforts to end abusive chanting is more something United would lead on rather than the police. “Of course, if people are offended or what is being chanted is considered a criminal offence then we always encourage people to report this to the police.” United are well aware of the Wenger abuse. Eight years ago, we led a campaign to get it stamped out, which they publicly supported.
