Not That good is still okay

ED GLEAVE GRAHAM Norton says wannabes don’t need to be top-notch singers to do well on new reality show Let It Shine.

Gary Barlow is on the hunt for five lads to star in a Take That musical.

Last night it went head-to-head with The Voice, which focuses solely on the vocal ability of contestants.

But Let It Shine host Graham said: “It is not just about vocal excellence. We are looking for elements that come together. You need cheeky energy, a killer voice and great dance moves. Every boy band is made up of elements. “Each boy band is different. The big difference with this show is we are not casting a role and that really changes the audition process.”

Gary is judging the singers alongside Dannii Minogue and Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp.

And the Take That frontman is almost as tough as Simon Cowell, according to Graham.

He said: “Gary is inscrutable. He has got a very good poker face. I look at him and it is very hard to see what he is thinking.” And contestants who are not successful will still benefit from the experience.

Graham said: “Even if they don’t go through, the judges are keen that the boys go away with some good advice.

“I think what is amazing for the boys is these are people who want to be in the industry.

“Normally if you go to an audition, they just go ‘next’. There is no feedback at all. “But the fact the four judges go into detail about what they did well and how they can improve is valuable. Even if you get the boot, in this you get an experience.”
