Fans’ fury over £1,158 movie model price tag

-

MAGAZINE bosses face a Back-lash for charging over £1,000 to build a famous movie motor.

The model of the Back to the Future DeLorean costs £1,158 and takes over two years to complete.

Adverts for the £8.99-a-week publication have been running on TV.

The first issue – with bits of the car – is £1.99. But the cost spirals for the remaining editions – a fact spotted by fans of the eighties smash.

Jo Wheatley, from website Netmums, warned: “Asking parents to cough up £1,157.70 for a toy is outrageous.

“It’s not fair or responsible for publishers/marketing companies to hook kids in this way.

“They’ll pester parents to buy issue after issue, and there’s sure to be a lot of disappointed children when their cash-strapped families are unable to splash out any more to complete it.”

She added: “The magazine needs to be clear from the offset about what is involved, and the cost to parents.”

The deal annoyed other devotees of the films, in FELICITY CROSS which Michael J Fox plays a teenage time-traveller.

Chris Douglas sneered: “130 issues at £8.99 – you could buy an actual DeLorean for that!”

Tony Doyle branded the deal “mental” and Steve Robinshaw said “you should be able to time-travel for that much!”

Lee Tallen ranted: “DeLorean over £1100 #ripoff.”

And Jerry Lehane wrote: “Do you want to build your own DeLorean? Well if you buy this magazine, after spending over £1,000 and waiting two years you’ll have one.”

The scale of the investment involved is revealed on publisher Eaglemoss’s website.

Real DeLorean cars sell for around £40,000.

Eaglemoss said online: “All Doc’s modifications have been carefully recreated from the nuclear reactor to the cables on the floor, and the model has a wealth of lights.

“It’s packed with tiny details including cables, lights in the ceiling, the flux capacitor, time circuits and much more.”
