GLEN ON HIS WAY IN STYLE

-

Defending champion Djokovic appeared to be heading for a straight sets win in Doha but Murray saved three match points before taking the tie to a decider.

The Scot had the first opportunity to break in the final set but he failed to take it and could not hold his next service game as the Serb dug in to put himself on course for a 6-3 5-7 6-4 success in a match which lasted almost three hours.

Yesterday’s final was the first meeting between the two since Murray overtook his long-term rival to become world No.1 MIKE SWANN WORLD No.1 Glen Durrant kick-started his quest for a first BDO World Championship with a 3-1 win over a spirited Nick Kenny at Frimley Green.

The Englishman (above) – who has suffered quarter-final and semi-final exits in the last two years of the event – is the strong favourite with the bookmakers to go all the way this time around.

He underlined his title credentials as early as the opening leg, completing a stunning 167 checkout that raised the roof of the Lakeside Country Club.

But Welshman Kenny hit back to win three legs on the spin and take the opening set.

However, Durrant had no such problems there after and eased into the second round in what could prove to be his last tournament before making the switch to the PDC.

Veteran Darryl Fitton prevented a ninth first-round exit in 15 appearances after beating Wouter Vaes 3-0.
