Good Copp strikes with deadly double

-

JAMES COPPINGER scored twice as Doncaster maintained a four-point lead at the top of League Two with a 3-1 win at Barnet.

The Bees, who had won six of their last eight games, led on 13 minutes through John Akinde.

But their joy was short-lived as Coppinger (below) equalised five minutes later before John Marquis and Coppinger’s second sealed the win.

Second-placed Plymouth recovered from an early setback to ease to a 4-2 win against Stevenage.

Matt Godden took just two minutes to put his side in front but Jordan Slew and Jake Jervis flipped the game in Argyle’s favour.

Steven Schumacher’s free-kick restored parity again but Paul-Arnold Garita and David Goodwillie ensured the win for the Pilgrims.

Carlisle were held to a 1-1 draw at home by 10-man Morecambe as Charlie Wyke cancelled out Aaron Wilding’s early opener shortly after Dean Winnard had been dismissed.

Portsmouth closed the gap on the third-placed Cumbrians with a 2-1 win at home to Leyton Orient thanks to a brace from Conor Chaplin. Cheltenham moved out of the bottom two with a 3-0 win over Accrington, who had midfielder Scott Brown sent off.

Danny Wright, Diego De Girolamo and Billy Waters netted to secure the result.

Notts County are in the drop zone after Kevin Nolan’s first game in charge ended in a goalless draw against Mansfield, while bottom side Newport are now six points from safety after they were held to a 1-1 draw by in-form Colchester. Luton moved into the play-off places with a 2-1 win at Crewe, despite playing 37 minutes with a man disadvantage as Jake Gray snatched a 69th-minute winner.

Elsewhere, a penalty apiece saw Wycombe draw 1-1 against Yeovil, Ollie Watkins sealed a 3-0 win for Exeter at Grimsby and James Collins’ header was enough for Crawley to see off Hartlepool.

Sam Slocombe was the Blackpool hero as he saved Luke Berry’s penalty in a goalless draw at Cambridge.
