Cops: ‘We can’t let George go’

FAMILY FORCED TO WAIT

- by JAMES INGHAM Showbiz Editor

GEORGE Michael’s family fear it could be weeks before police release his body for burial.

Grieving relatives are desperate to lay the tragic singer to rest in a traditional Greek Orthodox service following his death last month.

But they have been warned it could take until February as police continue to probe the music legend’s passing.

George’s funeral arrangements were decided soon after he was found dead on Christmas Day.

But an inquest into the 53-year-old’s death is now “all but certain” after his initial autopsy proved “inconclusive”.

A source close to the star said: “George’s family want to lay him to rest and give him some peace but it could be weeks before his body is released by police.

“There is still a chance some kind of charges could be brought over his death and police won’t release the body until those lines of enquiry have been concluded.

“A full inquest into George’s death is now all but certain. His family obviously want to know exactly what happened to George.

“But at the same time they also want to bury him and give him a proper send off.

“Having to wait so long for the body to be released is making everyone’s grief so much worse.” The former Wham singer was reportedly found dead in bed at his Oxford home by on-off boyfriend Fadi Fawaz, 43.

The Oxfordshire Coroner’s Office originally stated there was no reason to suggest the death was suspicious.

But rumours have since circulated that the star had drugs in his system.

Former hairdresser Fadi is now set to be quizzed by the investigating detectives for a second time.

The already strained relationship between himself and George’s family is now said to be “non-existent”.

Our source added: “George’s family hate seeing his death played out in the media every day like a soap opera.

“To say their relationship with Fadi is strained is an understatement.” There is no evidence that Fadi

has done anything wrong.
