Heart-throb desperate to star in Hollywood biopic BIEBER: LET ME PLAY GEORGE
JUSTIN Bieber wants to launch his acting career by playing George Michael in a music biopic.
The Canadian singer, 22, believes he can pull-off a convincing screen version of the 80s heartthrob – who died on Christmas Day, aged 53.
He has already shot his own video versions of two of George’s classic hits – Faith and Careless Whisper – to convince studio bosses he is right for the role.
According to one US report, his renditions of both numbers were so good his entire team is now backing him to get the part.
A source close to Bieber confirmed: “Several studio bosses have already shown interest and a couple have remarked that, as well as nailing the voice, Justin could actually pass for a young George with minimal make-up and styling.
“Justin reckons he is capable of MIKE PARKER playing George at every age up to his death.
“But his team believe an older, more established actor would have to be brought in to portray his later years.”
LA-based media analyst Mike Raia said last night: “However accomplished Justin’s versions of George’s songs are, there is bound to be uproar.
“George’s fans will want a British performer to play their idol.”
One American follower of the former Wham! star, who sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, blogged that it would be “a travesty” if “young upstart” Bieber lands the role.
Mr Raia added: “Scores of music stars think switching to the screen is no big deal, especially if they are cast in a musical film.
“But very few master the transition. “Playing George is quite a complex proposition. Here’s a guy who, after coming out as gay, was still tormented by demons that stopped him leading a normal life.”
George’s cousin and former manager Andros Georgiou last week claimed the singer was “back on the hard drugs” in his final days and died after a lethal overdose of crack cocaine, prescription pills and alcohol.
The record producer declared: “Crack was one of his favourite drugs. I think his heart just stopped beating.”
