A perfect Ben gets Gary off to flying start

-

GARY BRAZIL hailed the stunning strike from Ben Osborn that ended Nottingham Forest’s terrible run of form and extended Bristol City’s dreadful run in the Championship.

Caretaker boss Brazil handed Osborn his Reds debut during his last spell in temporary charge at the City Ground in March 2014 – and saw the midfielder repay the favour by supplying an outstanding volley in the 67th minute that secured a much needed win.

It ended a run of eight games without a win for Forest – a sequence that had seen boss Philippe Montanier sacked last weekend – while extending the Robins’ run of consecutive Championship defeats to eight.

“It was a fantastic strike. Benny has come a long way for this club and it was lovely to see him score a goal with a bit of class,” said Brazil, after seeing the team mark his first game back in charge with a win.

“We gave Benny his debut during my first spell in caretaker charge and we have seen him grow since then.

“It was not a tough decision to give him his debut a few years ago because you could see his quality then and you can see it now.

“But we had some really big players today. Everyone in a red shirt put in an effort and can be proud today. It was important to put some pride into this club. It is important that we stick together as fans, players and staff. That was the starting point for us.”

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is under increasing pressure following what was a club record eighth consecutive league defeat.

He said: “It’s a horrendous statistic. When we spoke at the start of the year about history-makers, it was supposed to be positive, not a history that’s bad history. I’m ashamed of that, of course I am.

“I’ve said to the players we’ve done that and we need to make sure we start making history in a positive way and we can still do that this year.

“We’re not in the relegation zone at this point. We need to fight our way back up the table and I believe we can.”
