RESULT! Morsy, Morsy just won’t stop believing

-

SAM MORSY scored the first goal and made the second as Wigan claimed their third win in a row.

But boss Warren Joyce refused to get carried away despite seeing his side move out of the Championship relegation zone.

Midfielder Morsy opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a fine strike from distance and he was involved in the second four minutes later when his cross was helped over the line by hapless defender Harlee Dean.

Brentford substitute Jota pulled one back inside the last five minutes but the Latics held on to send relegation rivals Burton into the bottom three.

“We’ve just got to keep taking one game at a time and doing the right things, and not take our eye off what we’re trying to achieve,” said Joyce.

“I thought there were a lot of good performances to be fair. Everybody contributed, it was a real team effort.”

Right-back Callum Connolly, 19, also put in an impressive shift on his home debut following his recent arrival on loan from Everton.

Joyce added: “Obviously I’ve known about him for a while and he’s a credit to Everton Football Club.

“They’re the ones who have developed him and he’s capable of having a long career in the Premier League.”

Brentford boss Dean Smith pulled no punches after seeing his side leave with nothing.

Smith, who left top scorer Scott Hogan out of the squad in light of continued speculation linking him with West Ham, said: “We didn’t pass the ball with any purpose or very well.

“The pitch isn’t great here, they did a job on us and they out-battled us.

“If I could put my finger on it, we would not have had a performance like that.”
