Ternent: All eyes on Sean

-

PAUL HETHERINGTON STAN TERNENT is Mr Burnley and he is worried about the Turf Moor club he both played for and managed.

His fear is that current boss Sean Dyche is doing such a good job that he will become a target for bigger clubs.

Dyche – who takes charge of his 200th Burnley game today – was wanted by Sunderland two years ago before Dick Advocaat changed his mind and decided to stay.

Since then, Dyche (below) has led the Clarets to the Championship title and looks on course to keep them in the Premier League this season.

But Ternent is worried about the future.

The man who was in charge at Turf Moor between 1998 and 2004 said: “There’s no doubt clubs will be looking if he continues to do well and Burnley stay up.

“He could be a target but it depends on what Sean wants to do as his family is still in Northampton.

“It also depends on whether Premier League clubs want to appoint a British manager as they keep looking at foreign coaches.

“Sometimes keeping a club in the Premier League is as good an achievement as winning a league or a cup.

“It depends on the resources available and what the realistic goals are. At the moment, Sean is doing a fantastic job at Burnley.”

Burnley face Arsenal at The Emirates today having taken one point on the road so far this season.

But Ternent said: “I think they will pick up away points because they’ve got goals in them.

“Having said that, Arsenal is a hard place to get anything – it’s difficult there just getting the ball!”

Another away defeat would not shake Ternent’s faith in Dyche though.

He added: “I see plenty of Sean and he’s doing

well.”
