FOOTIE ACE’S MESSAGE ENDED SLIMMER’S MARRIAGE ‘I shed 9st and lost my husband’

Diet betting off the menu

BOOKIES have ditched novelty weight loss bets after taking a pounding from dieters.

The final straw came earlier this month when we revealed how Dr Libby Collins, 37, had pocketed £2,500 for losing five stone in one year after backing herself with £50 at 50/1.

The Sheffield doc’s A WIFE who lost 9st was transformed into such a sexy new woman her husband left her. Becki Currell went from 23st to a svelte size 12 – and got chatted up by a Premier League footballer. But jealous husband Gary couldn’t cope with the attention she was getting and they split. Becki, 31, dropped six dress sizes after catching a glimpse of herself in a shop window in April 2015. She said: “The weight had been creeping on but it was only when I gave birth to my third child Heidi (now two) that things went downhill. “Within four months I’d put on two-and-a-half stone because I’m a pig. “It was easier to eat biscuits than proper food. Then I saw myself in a shop window and burst into tears.” Becki, of Mansfield, Notts, joined Slimming World and started posting photos of her meals on Instagram. She soon had a following of 22,000 people who admired her honest posts about her weight-loss journey. She was even asked out by a top footballer after uploading a snap of herself in a bikini. Becki said: “I was really flattered, but I’ve blocked him now. I was a married woman – that’s not going to happen!” But the message was the last straw for Gary. As Becki lost weight and gained confidence, windfall could now be William Hill’s last payout for a dieting challenge. Rupert Adams from the firm said: “We’ve paid out pounds to people losing pounds, but in future only heavy gamblers who have previously lost on the weight loss market with ISOBEL DICKINSON and LISA HIGGINS she said her husband struggled with the attention she was getting. She added: “At the beginning my husband was so supportive, but it didn’t last.”

In October, after she’d lost 9st, he told her he wanted a divorce.

Becki said: “One night he turned around and said he didn’t love me anymore.

“We were together for 12 years, married for eight and had been through so much.”

Despite the heartache Becki claims she is better off without him. She added: “I admit all I talked about was losing weight so I suppose it could get really annoying.

“But I’ve improved my health and made myself feel better. And now I’m inspiring others!” BREAKFAST: Half a packet of chocolate biscuits LUNCH: Four slices of white bread with cheese, crisps, chocolate DINNER: Nuggets, chips, pizza or a takeaway Biscuits Coffee and pop BREAKFAST: Porridge made with water A lean meat salad Steak with wedges & vegetables Dried fruit bars Up to three litres of water a day. Detox tea us will be permitted to do diet bets. “It’s clear from the figures that we were battling the odds by taking bets on people battling the scales.

“We were taking around 100 weight loss bets a year and more and more punters were landing their bets, so it wasn’t making economic sense.”
