l boss League again, iled to in the replay. assing atus. Wolves having imann derers he 86th ge had LIVERPOOL: headed across the face of goal. And just a minute later young keeper Harry Burgoyne made a vital block to deny Origi a second goal.

Wolves hung on for their second away victory over Premier League opposition in this season’s FA Cup after winning at Stoke in the last round.

Boss Paul Lambert said: “The last 10 minutes were the longest I’ve ever known but we deserved to win.

“You have to be big and brave to win here in this WOLVES: atmosphere but the early goal gave us something to hang on to. The lads were fantastic but I’ve never lost here whether it’s with Celtic, Norwich or Aston Villa and now Wolves.

“And this surpasses those results because Celtic are a huge club and Norwich and Villa were in the Premier League when I brought them here.”

It was a battle between managers who are Borussia Dortmund legends – Klopp as a boss at the German club and Lambert as a player with the 1997 Champions League winners.

And it was Lambert who came out on top against a Liverpool side which started with only two recognised first choices in Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino.

They had other experience, though, and it was one of those players – skipper-for-the-day Lucas – who contributed to their nightmare start. He immediately conceded a free-kick which led to Wolves taking the lead after only 52 seconds.

Helder Costa’s well-delivered set-piece was met by a fine Stearman downward header into the far corner of the net. And, to make the goal even more galling for Liverpool, the centre-back looked to be fractionally offside.

The free-kick was also taken 10 yards further forward than it should have been, giving Costa a better angle. Liverpool must have known then that it was not going to be their day.

It could easily have been 2-0 after 11 minutes when the dangerous Costa shot wide after a fine run which embarrassed the home defence.

One of the Liverpool youngsters – midfielder Ovie Ejaria – gave the crowd hope with his enterprise and skill.

But Wolves increased their lead four minutes from half-time when Costa played in Weimann and the former Aston Villa striker went round keeper Loris Karius before slotting home.

Klopp reacted at the break by reorganising his back four and sending on superstar Philippe Coutinho with right-back Connor Randall making way. Joe Gomez switched to right-back with Lucas moving to the centre of defence.

Coutinho produced Liverpool’s first shot on target on the hour but it was a comfortable save for Burgoyne in only his third appearance.

The Brazilian helped Liverpool improve but they were never convincing. There was some predictable late pressure but Wolves defended well and Burgoyne certainly wasn’t overworked.

And only a good block from Lucas nine minutes from time prevented sub Jon Dadi Bodvarsson increasing the Championship club’s lead.
