Greig: Do it for Cott

DARYL OUT TO SETTLE SCORE

-

GREIG LAIDLAW wants to give the departing Vern Cotter “the best send-off we can” in the shape of the Six Nations title.

The Scotland captain hailed the New Zealander’s time in charge, transforming the side into World Cup quarter-finalists.

Cotter is being ditched by the Scottish RFU in favour of former Lions fly-half and current Glasgow Warriors boss Gregor Townsend.

The departing boss is joining Montpellier in the summer.

Laidlaw said: “Verne is not the type of bloke who likes taking the credit or people talking about him. He’s moved the side forward since he’s been here and he’s certainly helped me develop.

“His competitive nature has rubbed off on the players and we would love to give the best send-off we can.

“We want success in the jersey and where better to start than the Six Nations? It’s been far too long.”

POWELL is aiming for revenge against St Helens today for spoiling Castleford’s perfect record.

The Tigers beat all the big guns last season apart from Saints – who they lost to three times.

It still rankles with Powell (right) and he is eager to make this Castleford side one that is feared by everyone.

He takes a strong team to Saints JULIE STOTT today for a pre-season friendly and admits that he is treating it very seriously.

The Cas boss said: “We managed to beat everyone last year apart from Saints so I am really looking forward to this challenge of facing them again today.

“We have finished fourth, fifth and fifth in the last three years and we want to be seen as a big club.

“We have come a long way in three-and-a-half years but now it is about being successful for years and years.

“I do not see why that cannot happen but without a doubt we have got to win something.”
