Shakira: I am singing for my girl
SINGER Shakira Lueshing hopes her stint on The Voice will heal a family rift.
She was abandoned by a boyfriend when she got pregnant and three years on he has never met their daughter Anais Sky.
Shakira said: “When he found out I was pregnant he wasn’t interested. He’s not part of her life and he’s not part of my life anymore.
“When she was born I prayed he would come back. A lot of guys get angry and upset. I thought he’d come back. “She’s nearly three now and he still doesn’t want to know her. I don’t know his full reasons for it. It could be immaturity.”
Shakira added: “She’s a beautiful young girl and she does no harm. So for her to not know who her dad is, that’s quite hurtful.
“I get upset and annoyed because I think I’ve done it to her.
“But what can I do? I’ve tried to get him to be part of her life. “Sometimes it feels like I’m devaluing my daughter by forcing her on to someone that doesn’t want to know. Then I start to feel ED GLEAVE rejected. And I feel rejected for her.”
Shakira was devastated when the boyfriend ditched her. She said: “We were good friends and then one mistake led to a beautiful blessing. I can see why he doesn’t want to be around but at the same time you’d expect someone to want to be a father to their own child. But it hasn’t happened like that in my situation.” Millions of viewers saw Shakira win will.i.am as a mentor on The Voice last night.
She said: “I feel like when he sees her on the show he might think, ‘Yeah, there’s my daughter’. Because he hasn’t ever seen her for himself.”
And she admitted: “A part of me wants to shut the door and stop hoping. But every mum wants their child to have a relationship with their father – it’s not about me, it’s about her. ” When she gets older she’s going to want to know why he doesn’t want anything to do with her.”
