Back came Liverpool and in a mad scramble, Coutinho blazed wide before the unthinkable – a second Hull goal.

Substitute Niasse found himself free and bore down on Mignolet, did not panic and coolly slid the ball into the net to bring mocking Klopp cries of, “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

Liverpool could not believe it – and nor could their boss as Jordan Henderson’s blockbuster was tipped over by Jakupovic and substitute Daniel Sturridge watched in horror as his shot bounced off the keeper’s body.

It simply summed up Liverpool’s horror day which has left their hopes of challenging for a top-four finish and a prized lace in the Champions League next season hanging in the balance.
