Corbyn: End killer care cuts

‘CRISIS’: Labour leader PEOPLE are dying because of Government austerity policies, Jeremy Corbyn claimed last night.

The Labour leader accused ministers of “disgraceful neglect” which had led to an “emergency” in local services including social care.

And he urged voters to use two crunch by-elections to “send a message” to Theresa May.

In a speech to Labour councillors, Mr Corbyn said voters in Copeland and Stoke-on-Trent Central could demonstrate they have “had enough” of cuts.

He claimed: “We have a state of emergency in our social care system and the worst crisis in the history of our NHS.”

At Warwick University, the Labour leader said the situation in social care was an “absolute scandal that leaves 1.2million elderly people without the care they need”.

He highlighted a report which he claimed said the crisis “was linked to 30,000 excess deaths in 2015”.

Mr Corbyn said: “People are dying because of the choices made by this government. Our social care system has been privatised, outsourced and cut.

“It has dehumanised our parents, grandparents and neighbours.”

He accused Mrs May of leading “a government that gives billions away in tax breaks to big business and the richest and pays for it by cutting the services to the most vulnerable”.

He added: “It is this callousness, even brutality, that has put local services in a state of emergency,”

Mr Corbyn vowed that a Labour government under him “will always provide the NHS and social care with the funds they need”. BATHERS hit Brighton beach yesterday as a blast of warm air from Florida and parts of the Caribbean brought milder weather.

It could reach 15C or 16C in southern and eastern England tomorrow, while highs could peak at 17C in eastern Scotland, the Met Office said.

Aberdeen, Wattisham in Suffolk and London are tipped as likely spots for the top temperatures, with the east of the UK enjoying the best of the warmer weather. The mild spell is pushing temperatures to 4C or 5C above the average maximums for this time of year, and could make us hotter than the rest of Europe.
