Tee-Rex jibe over golf ban

-

BOOKIES Paddy Power took a swipe at “dinosaur” golf club bosses by putting up a sign on the gate that read: “Welcome to Jurassic Park.”

The stunt came after Muirfield Golf Club said it will hold a second ballot on whether to admit female members.

The course hit headlines last year after members voted to continue a 272-year ban on women.

The backlash meant golf chiefs removed the Scottish venue from the list of clubs eligible to host the Open.

So Paddy Power slung the sign over Muirhead’s gates to serve as a wake-up call.

The bookie has another “No” vote as the most likely outcome at odds of 1/2.

A spokesman said: “The decision last May to not admit female members was about as progressive as a Donald Trump policy. It’s driven a wedge between stuffy members and the outside world.

“While Muirfield members bury their heads in the sand this time round, we thought we’d prod the beast with our Jurassic sign.

“To be honest we were a bit scared when one of the dinosaurs stormed out to take our sign down, but overall it was a roaring success.”

A result on the second vote is expected by the middle of next month.
