RESULT! Blades find a Sharp edge in battle at top

SHEFFIELD UNITED maintained their five-point advantage at the top of League One after a 1-1 draw with nearest rivals Scunthorpe at Bramall Lane.

Paddy Madden tapped the Iron into the lead from Stephen Dawson’s cross two minutes into the second half but it lasted less than two minutes before Billy Sharp (below) volleyed the Blades level.

Scunthorpe’s Harry Toffolo was then sent off in the 51st minute for a wild challenge on Kieron Freeman before both sides hit the woodwork late on.

Bolton failed to close the gap on the Scunthorpe after they came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Bradford.

A double from Charlie Wyke had the Bantams coasting after 16 minutes.

But the Trotters rallied and second-half goals from David Wheater and Gary Madine earned them a share of the points.

Cian Bolger headed home his fifth goal of the season as Fleetwood extended their unbeaten league run to 16 games after a 1-0 win against MK Dons at Stadium MK.

With Millwall in FA Cup action, Southend jumped into the play-off places on goal difference after a 2-2 draw with Northampto­n.

Sub Jorge Teixeira scored twice as Charlton secured a 3-3 draw at Rochdale and added-time goals from Erhun Oztumer and Kieron Morris gave Walsall a 2-0 win over Peterborou­gh.

George Miller struck in stoppage time to give Lee Clark a winning start as Bury boss and the 2-1 win at Chesterfie­ld saw them climb out of the relegation zone at the expense of Port Vale, who could only draw 1-1 with Bristol Rovers.

Swindon’s run without a win was extended to six games in the 0-0 draw with Oldham, while Kwame Thomas and George Thomas scored to give Coventry a first win in 16 matches as they downed Gillingham 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena.

Aristote Nsiala’s last-minute effort gave Shrewsbury a 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon.
