We’ll cure our travel sickness says Sean

-

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche jumped to his side’s defence after they came from behind to pick up only their second away point this season.

The Clarets, who were knocked out of the FA Cup at home to non-league Lincoln City last weekend, now face three more road trips in succession.

And Dyche said: “I’m really pleased with the mentality of the players because there’s a lot made about our away record.

“We were more than ready for the challenge and it bodes well for the future.

“People say we can’t play away from home but I’m pleased for the players – and all the noise from last weekend goes away immediately.

“We were a different team here.’’

Dyche was more upset with referee Martin Atkinson’s decision to send off Ashley Barnes than he was with Hull’s penalty opener.

The former Brighton striker was dismissed near the end after receiving a second yellow card for a foul after being cautioned for dissent when he protested about the spot-kick award.

Dyche said: “I was a bit aggrieved with Barnsey’s dismissal.

“The second booking was a definite booking but the first one? You know the behaviour of our players is immaculate.

“He said he ran at him but I said, ‘Barnsey is not the quickest!’

“He didn’t look aggressive to me – there were no expletives. I thought it was really harsh.’’

Dyche also questioned the spot-kick award and said: “The penalty was a harsh one but it’s hard for the referee.

“There seemed to be a melee and I thought he had done well to pull an arm out of that.

“When I saw it played back, Michael Keane goes with his head and Harry Maguire pushes his arm to the ball – I don’t think he did it deliberately.

“But I’m not going to make a big song and dance about it.’’

Hull boss Marco Silva singled out Maguire for special praise.

The defender played on with a knock and Silva said: “I hope it’s not a bad one.

“Harry needs to recover but what he showed me and the fans was a fantastic attitude and spirit. It was an impact injury.

“We need players like Maguire because he’s a very good centre-back. He has the capacity to have a really big career.’’

But Keane made amends just five minutes la controlled former Hull winger Robbie Brady’s corner on his chest and fired home.

That wrecked the Tigers’ hopes of climbing o bottom three and ended boss Marco Silva’s 100 home record after four wins here in all com since he took charge last month.

Burnley, who had striker Ashley Barnes se stoppage time for a second yellow card, are y away in league and cup this season but this res a run of seven top-flight defeats on the road.

On the face of it, the last thing travel-sick needed on the back of their FA Cup Fifth-Rou exit at the hands of National League high-flyer City was four successive away trips.

But there was generous applause before the Hull old boys Brady and George Boyd on their Humberside.

Boyd, though, threatened to upset the locals in minute with a 25-yard drive that forced keep Jakupovic to save low to his left.

Hull centre-back Harry Maguire then had t deal with a dangerous left-wing ball from Brady in front of goal as Burnley made the early running.

Ahmed Elmohamady created the home side’s first opening in the 14th minute by whipping in a right-wing cross that Dieumerci Mbokan headed wide.

The swirling wind and sleet were a world away from the conditions Hull enjoyed at their recent training camp in Portugal but Elmohamady should have done better than drag a shot well wide from a good position.

The Clarets had more to worry about when Keane needed to head clear under pressure from Mbokani, but Kamil Grosicki lifted the ball over with Heaton out of his ground.

Burnley continued to look menacing on the break but Brady blazed wildly over after finding room on the left.

Hull had a bigger scare, however, when he sent in a curling right-wing free-kick and Jakupovic clawed away Ben Mee’s back-post header at the second attempt with Barnes taking a blow in the face from the keeper in the process.

The Tigers then had a set-piece opportunity of their own after Huddlestone was pulled down by Ashley Westwood, who
