We can Mac it a derby winner

-

GREG ADAMS DAVID McGOLDRICK and Mick McCarthy are backing Ipswich to bag a first derby win since 2009 against rivals Norwich this lunchtime.

The Canaries, relegated from the Premier League last season, are just outside the play-off places in the Championship.

And Alex Neil’s side have hit form again after a miserable run of three wins in 14 league games between October and January.

But McGoldrick claims the Tractor Boys are relishing the trip to Carrow Road.

The Ipswich hitman said: “I have been here four years and I know how important the match is to our supporters.

“It’s the first game they look for when the fixtures come out.

“We haven’t beaten them in a while. It’s going to be a tough game but we are playing well and the lads are looking forward to it.”

Ipswich boss McCarthy, whose side have lost just once in their last six games, also believes they can take something from the game.

“We know Norwich are a good side. I thought, with the start they had, they would be in the top six,” he said.

“It’s not worked out like that at the moment and people might say there is extra pressure on them.

“But there is pressure on both teams, it’s a derby.

“We are in confident mood. We have played well in our last four games and should have had more points than we have got.”

Norwich’s Wes Hoolahan, though, has never tasted defeat in the derby and hopes that his run can continue.

The Canaries midfielder said: “We’ve had a good record against them over the years.

“It’s a special occasion, you only get two a year so you’ve got to enjoy every minute of it.

“The play-off games are great to be involved in but you move on and worry about the next game.

“Where we are at the moment, we have to win games.

“We’ll take each one as it comes and the next one is the most important one.

“Everyone’s going to be up for it and we are looking forward to the challenge.

“Hopefully we can get the three points.”
