The Great Brutish Bake Off

LAG NOW CAKE KING

-

A JAILED terror plotter has got a new job baking cakes for fellow inmates.

Rangzieb Ahmed was caged for life for being an al-Qaida member and possessing a document for terror-related purposes.

He headed a three-man al-Qaida cell which was preparing to commit terorist acts on UK soil.

Rochdale-born Ahmed now spends his time in the kitchen at maximum security Frankland prison in Durham preparing treats for other cons.

Last night a source close to the 41-year-old lifer told the Daily Star Sunday: “Rangzieb is so pleased with his new job.

“Some days he bakes as many as 200 cakes a day. He just loves cooking.

“It’s a big responsibility as he has access to all the kitchen equipment, but there have been no problems so far.”

Ahmed, who reportedly had links to every British terror cell including the 7/7 and 21/7 bombers, is the highestranking member of al-Qaida to go on trial in Britain. He was sentenced in 2008.

In 2012 he sparked outrage alongside co-conspirator Salahuddin Amin, 42, when he attempted to get his conviction quashed on human rights grounds, EXCLUSIVE JOE HINTON despite the claim already being rejected by British courts. The jury in his trial did not hear that three of Ahmed’s fingernails had been removed during alleged torture in Pakistan. He claims they were torn out with pliers by Pakistani intelligence agents, shortly before he was interviewed by officers from MI5. Ahmed and Amin have launched an appeal after claiming their trials were unfair because UK spies knew some information used against them was obtained during torture. Ahmed, whose family are split between Rochdale and Kashmir, was held in Pakistan in 2006. Said to be at the centre of “al-Qaida’s global web”, Ahmed travelled to Dubai as part of a terrorist cell in 2005, unaware that he was under surveillance. His luggage was secretly searched during the trip and found to contain notebooks with details of al-Qaida contacts written in invisible ink. On his return, the British security services continued to watch him and bugged his car. He was the first person convicted by a British court on a charge of directing a terrorist organisation.
