The Bath centre produced a stunning try-scoring show to bury and humiliate the Scots under an avalanche of points – and keep hold of the Calcutta Cup.

It was also a record 11th Championship win in a row as Twickenham roared its approval. Now, they will want to complete the Grand Slam double in Dublin.

Joseph certainly boosted his own chances of a Lions place in New Zealand as Eddie Jones’ starters made sure the “finishers” did not have to jump off the bench and fly to the rescue, just as they had done against France and Wales.

It was a one-sided battle between the old foes with England racking up a magnificent seven tries and their highest points total in the Calcutta Cup.

Owen Farrell kicked 26 points after passing a very late fitness test on his leg injury. The Saracens star helped steer his team to a 30-7 half-time lead and the game was already virtually won.

England head coach Jones said: “We’ve been ready to play well for a long time now.

“Today we had a chance to play rugby and the guys were superb. We can now look forward to next week and the Grand Slam game. The guys have worked hard and learned new things and ways.

“We are only one year into a four-year project and we are going to get better and better. I can’t wait for Dublin. It’s going to be a massive occasion and we are in good shape for it.”

Scotland captain John Barclay said: “We didn’t show up today. England are a world class side and arguably the best team in the world right now.”

Three first-half tries left the visitors dazed and confused and Scotland hooker Fraser Brown was fortunate to escape being sent off for an ugly tip tackle on Elliot Daly.

Moments later England started their rampage.

With Scotland down to 14 men, George Ford’s pass was grabbed by the onrushing Joseph and the Bath centre applied the turbo charge to burst over for a try.

Ford and Joseph combined again ELISE CHRISTIE claimed the first world title of her career with victory in the women’s 1500m final at the World Short Track Championships.

The Scot, 26, had previously won eight silver and bronze world medals but beat Canada’s Marianne St-Gelais and Suk Hee Shim of South Korea to take her first gold yesterday.

The win capped a fine recovery for Christie (right) from the nightmare of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
