Muslims speak out against ISIS fiends

-

HUNDREDS of Muslims marched against terror yesterday.

They gathered in Birmingham’s Victoria Square carrying banners that read: “Not in our name – Muslims oppose ISIS.”

The event, organised by the city’s Central Mosque, saw speakers criticise extremists.

Henna Rai, founder of the Women Against Radicalisation Network, described Wednesday’s outrage in Westminster as “an appalling act, carried out by a pathetic individual”. She added: “It was an indiscriminate attack on innocent people that sought to turn communities against one another.

“By standing together with people of all faiths and none to reject hatred in all its forms, we will show terrorists and extremists that they can never divide us, they can never break our communities, and they can never win.”

Imam Dr Waqar Azmi told the crowd of around 200 people that Islamic extremists did not represent the views of ordinary Muslims.

He said: “Those people who are Daesh and ISIS do not define the values that Muslims would hold. “We refuse now to allow them to misrepresent us and refuse now to allow them to define us.

“Because we are defined by a shared value of love thy neighbour.”

Birmingham’s Sparkbrook area was this month named one of Britain’s leading Islamic terror hotspots, with a tenth of convicted terrorists hailing from there.
