Forces on cyber trail

-

A TOP secret military cyber unit dubbed Operation Pacific is at the centre of the hunt for extremist associates of Westminster killer Khalid Masood.

The Joint Force Cyber Group is working with GCHQ and the Home Office to identify Masood’s radical network after police recovered 2,700 data files in swoops following the atrocity.

Formed in 2013 to confront the emerging digital threat, the unit includes army, navy and air force personnel who are based at Corsham, Wilts.

The experts can intercept mobile phone conversations which they then tag in order to track the “geographical footprint” of the user across the UK.

Using information from seized computers, they can also target laptops, phones or tablets connected to the Internet.
