TV LEGEND GLORIA WARNS OF BANK SCAMS ‘Fraudsters who conned me out of £120k prove nobody’s safe’

SCAMMING victim Gloria Hunniford has warned that bank fraud is at crisis point and everyone is at risk.

The telly legend was devastated when she had £120,000 stolen from her savings account.

She now reckons nobody is safe because con artists are more skilful than ever.

Gloria, 76, said: “Fraud is a huge problem and it’s getting worse all the time. The fraudsters are getting more sophistica­ted so it’s harder for the consumer to keep their money safe.

“I was very badly scammed so I feel it’s my duty to warn people what can happen.”

A woman posed as Gloria at a Santander branch in Croydon, south London.

The fraudster was with two accomplice­s who claimed they were Gloria’s daughter and grandson.

When Gloria was told what happened she was shocked because she assumed her account was safe.

She said: “These were savings that were tucked away in an account. I hadn’t been in it for years. I wouldn’t have even known the number for it without looking it up.

“I check everything quite regularly. I’m savvy about money. I check my credit cards all the time. I’m very hands-on with the banks.

“There were no steps I could have taken to stop it happening and that’s the worrying thing. I don’t do online banking or phone banking. I would be classified as quite archaic. I don’t throw stuff in the bin and I only ever pay by cheque.

“It was easier for strangers to get their hands on my money than it would have been for me. The whole thing was unsettling. I was very frustrated and
